Evan Gershkovich, a U.S. journalist with The Wall Street Journal, who has been imprisoned in Russia on espionage charges since March, received his third visit from U.S. Ambassador to Russia Lynne Tracy on Monday

During her meeting with Evan Gershkovich, Ambassador Tracy conveyed that despite the challenging circumstances, he remains in good health and maintains his strength. She emphasized the continued commitment of the U.S. Embassy to extend appropriate support to Evan Gershkovich and his family. State Department spokesperson Vedant Patel echoed this sentiment, emphasizing the necessity for Russian authorities to uphold consular access.

In line with their persistent advocacy, U.S. officials once again urged the Russian Federation to immediately release Evan Gershkovich, along with another wrongly detained American citizen, Paul Whelan. Whelan, arrested in 2018, was convicted of espionage in 2020 and sentenced to 16 years in prison.
