Allan Winans, the Atlanta Braves’ starting pitcher, threw seven innings of scoreless relief in their 21-3 victory over the New York Mets on Saturday.

In just his second big league outing, the 28-year-old right-hander racked up nine strikeouts and earned his first Major League Baseball victory.
According to Braves announcer Bally Sports South, Winans has been filling in for teachers in his native Bakersfield, California, during the off-season. His students refer to him as Mr. W.
In a report from CNN, Winans was taken in the 17th round of the 2018 draft; ironically, the New York Mets had originally chosen him.

Anytime you are called up to the major leagues, Winans said after the game, it is pretty special and cool. However, being selected by those players made me dream of playing at Citi Field, so being able to come here and compete against them makes it a little more meaningful. But since we succeeded in our goal of assisting the Braves in winning today, I was satisfied with my performance. Regardless of the squad you are playing against, getting your first “W” in the major leagues is very awesome.
Matt Olson, a slugger for the Braves, hit two home runs in the rout to increase his big-league-best RBI total to 105 and take over the lead with 42 long balls this season, reports in Battery Power.
