A New York City doctor was charged with a series of fresh allegations saying that he recorded the assaults of at least seven women, including patients at the hospital where he worked. The doctor was previously accused of raping a woman at his Queens home.
The Queens district attorney reported that Zhi Alan Cheng, 33, a New York City doctor, was arraigned on Monday on allegations of raping three additional women inside his apartment and sexually assaulting three of his patients at New York-Presbyterian Queens hospital.
In the course of the investigation, videos purportedly depicting the New York City doctor’s three patients between March 2021 and May 2022 were seized.
According to the district attorney’s office, all three patients seemed to be asleep and had had their closed eyelids yanked open during the assault.
Melinda Katz, the district attorney for Queens, stated that the New York City doctor was “a sexual predator of the absolute worst kind” based on the evidence.
“A serial rapist, someone willing to violate not only his sacred professional oath and patients’ trust but also every standard of human decency,” she referred to the New York City doctor.
In December, the New York City doctor was first detained and accused of drugging and raping a female acquaintance in his residence.
According to the district attorney’s office, the female acquaintance allegedly discovered tapes of the New York City doctor abusing her and other women in his house and reported them to the police, which sparked the inquiry.
The New York City doctor was fired from his position at the hospital where, according to the prosecution, even more attacks occurred soon after his detention in December.
The offenses done by this person, according to a statement from New York-Presbyterian, are “heinous, despicable, and a fundamental betrayal of our mission and our patients’ trust.”
The films allegedly documenting the New York City doctor’s alleged sexual assault on unconscious female hospital patients and female friends were discovered during a search of his house.
According to the district attorney’s office, several films included scenes from places other than Queens, such as Westchester County, Manhattan, Las Vegas, San Francisco, and Thailand.
Prosecutors claim that drugs, including sevoflurane and propofol, which are used to sedate patients in medical settings, were also discovered in Mr. Cheng’s residence. LSD, ketamine, and fentanyl were also discovered.
In one of the recordings, according to the prosecution, the New York City doctor is seen handling a brown container that like the one that was taken from his residence and contained the anesthetic sevoflurane. It was reported that the women do not remember what happened.
In Queen’s court on Monday, Mr. Cheng watched as 50 fresh charges were filed against him. To the further accusations, he entered a not guilty plea.
On September 19, the New York City doctor is anticipated to appear in court once more. If found guilty, he could receive multiple sentences of 25 years to life.
