Inclusion, equity, and diversity initiatives were eliminated by Walt Disney World’s governing board on Tuesday as part of the current conflict between the theme park and Florida Governor Ron DeSantis – the latest action to limit such policies in the state.

In a press release, the Central Florida Tourism Oversight Agency, which is currently run by DeSantis appointees, announced that it was eliminating its DEI committee, associated job responsibilities, and any ongoing programs from the time the agency was run by Disney supporters. These programs granted contracts by gender and racial parity objectives.

The district’s new administrator, Glenton Gilzean, claimed in an announcement that the “so-called inclusion, equity, and diversity programs” that were pursued under the last board’s tenure “had been illegal and unAmerican.” Our region will no more support any effort to separate us based on race or spread the idea that we are not all equal.
