A Food Not Bombs volunteer named Phillip Picone was found not guilty after being ticketed for feeding homeless people outside a public library in Houston, wherein the Food Not Bombs volunteer joined other volunteers in giving meals to the homeless people wandering around the Houston Public Library.
According to a report published in US News, the Food Not Bombs volunteer was ticketed for feeding homeless people after the Houston City officials issued an order that volunteers, including the Food Not Bombs volunteer, should first get permission from the owners if they seek to feed homeless people in the area.
The Food Not Bombs volunteer reportedly failed to follow the orders and kept on providing meals to homeless people, which caused threats to employees and people who visited the public library, leading to the violations filed against the Food Not Bombs volunteer despite only giving meals to homeless people who don’t have the means to provide for their daily meals.
Houston City Officials Continue to Pursue Violations Against Feeding Homeless People Following Food Not Bombs Volunteer Being Found Not Guilty
Following the ticket issued to the Food Not Bombs volunteer, Houston City officials continued to pursue violations against feeding homeless people to ensure the safety and health of the residents in different parts of the city.
Aside from the Food Not Bombs volunteer, some other groups and individuals also received tickets after providing meals to homeless people outside the public library, AP News reported.
