The map gave users a quick overview of the locations of the random assaults that took place throughout 2022, with Florida beaches taking the top rank for the number of reports worldwide.
According to the Florida Museum, there was an aggregate of 16 attacks in Florida; none of them were deadly but 2 required medical attention serious enough to need amputation.
Off the coast of Keawakapu Beach in Maui, Hawaii, the only deadly incident that occurred in the country in 2022 was a shark attack. As per a survey from the University of Florida’s International Shark Attack File, the 2 nations with the highest number of unexpected bites were found to be the United States and Australia.
In total, 57 bites were reported worldwide in 2018, with 5 of those bites ending in deaths, down from 9 in 2021 and 10 in 2022.
