The funds that fraudsters took will shortly be returned to Illinois residents who depend on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) for food for themselves and their loved ones.

In Berwyn, Elizabeth Fandl resides. She became one of the people who robbers were targeting. She has a limited income and is extremely dependent on the SNAP benefits she receives each month.

“I depend on it for meals,” she admitted.

A couple of weeks ago, she updated the balance on her Link Card and saw that all of her funds had mysteriously vanished.

When I discovered it had 0 on it, I kept it inside my purse,” she stated.

She previously got the pandemic-boosted payment in late February, when she got a sum of more than $200.

Her financial records revealed the deposit as well as a few irrelevant transactions made in the days that followed.
