The mom of the US soldier who entered North Korea illegally and is currently being held there stated her son would never act in such a reckless manner.

Travis King, a 23-year-old Army private stationed in South Korea, got separated from the others and fled through the border on Tuesday while on a visit to the area of demilitarized conflict separating the 2 nations.

“I don’t recognize Travis performing something like that,” Racine, Wisconsin resident Claudine Gates said to ABC News.

She stated that she had not spoken to her son in a couple of days and wished for him to return home.

King, who spent time in a South Korean prison for assault-related offenses, experienced disciplinary actions by the military when stationed there.

He was accompanied to the airport by military officials in preparation for his travel to return to the US, but when he left and passed the security checkpoint, he missed the flight.
