Sheriff’s office reports that a prisoner at Harris County Jail passed away due to an underlying medical condition

As per the sheriff’s office, officials are looking into the tenth death at the Harris County Jail in a single year, which occurred on Sunday after a prisoner experienced a medical emergency.

The 49-year-old Oscar Villazana passed away after receiving treatment for a pre-existing medical issue, the Harris County Sheriff’s Office reported in a press release.

Villazana was taken to Memorial Hermann by ambulance on Thursday, July 13, and passed away there on Sunday at 10:14 p.m., based on to the sheriff’s office.

According to state law, which mandates that all inmate deaths be looked into by a third-party law enforcement organization, the Texas Rangers are investigating the incident. There was a report of Villazana’s death to the Texas Commission on Jail Standards.

The Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences is going to perform an autopsy to identify Villazana’s reason for death.
