The auto crash involved a gray 2021 Kia Forte, which astonishingly carried seven people, exceeding its designated capacity, and a white BMW SUV, according to the Seattle Times. The Kia was heading south, while the BMW was traveling in the opposite direction on the northbound lanes of the highway. The specific driver responsible for the car crash has not been determined yet.
Following the initial car crash, the overcrowded Kia tragically caught fire, noted the Times
The identities of the victims have not been disclosed, and the causes of their deaths remain undisclosed as well. Trooper Dattilo stated, “I can’t confirm any single violation that would have caused this car crash. It’s going to be under investigation, probably for a while,” when speaking to the local paper. Investigators will analyze surveillance footage of the car crash to aid their inquiry, Dattilo added.
As authorities conducted their investigation and cleared the wreckage, the northbound lanes were closed for five hours on Sunday. This tragic car crash serves as a solemn reminder of the need for road safety and adherence to vehicle capacity limits.
