Semi-Truck Driver Arrested: TikTok Distraction Leads to Fatal Six-Vehicle Crash in Arizona

According to officials from the Arizona Department of Public Safety, Semi-truck driver Tiner, 36, was actively using the TikTok application at the time of the accident, which resulted in the deaths of five individuals.

Semi-truck driver Danny G. Tiner has been arrested and charged in connection with a tragic six-vehicle collision that occurred in January in Chandler, Arizona

The incident took place on January 12 during the early morning hours on congested Interstate 10. Semi-truck driver Tiner, who failed to stop for traffic, rear-ended two passenger vehicles, causing a chain reaction. The impact wedged the cars between a second commercial truck, which then struck two other vehicles, resulting in a fiery collision.

An investigation assisted by the FBI revealed that Semi-truck driver Tiner was using the TikTok app when the accident occurred. Additionally, it was discovered that Semi-truck driver Tiner was traveling at a speed of 68 mph in a 55 mph zone. Semi-truck driver Tiner admitted to receiving a message on his electronic work tablet and acknowledged being distracted by it. When he looked up, he realized the traffic had stopped, but was unable to halt his vehicle in time to prevent the collision.

Semi-truck driver Tiner has been charged with five counts of manslaughter, four counts of endangerment, and one count of tampering with physical evidence

Semi-truck driver Tiner was arrested at his residence and is currently in custody. Bail has been set at $300,000, and Semi-truck driver Tiner is scheduled to appear in court on July 7.

The victims who tragically lost their lives were occupants of the two passenger vehicles that were struck first, both of which caught fire. Semi-truck driver Tiner himself sustained minor injuries in the incident. It is currently unknown whether Semi-truck driver Tiner has legal representation.
