The Winnsboro Fire Department has announced several disaster relief options available to those affected, without requiring proof of residency.
The Winnsboro community and its surrounding areas are being offered a range of services following the recent storm
Free meals are being provided at the fire station located on Main Street. The Red Cross delivers the food between 5:30 p.m. and 6 p.m., subject to their schedule. Additionally, individuals can find free supplies of ice and water at the farmer’s market situated at 200 Carnegie Street.
For those in need of shower and laundry facilities, the city park at 900 Wheeler Drive is offering free services. A three-stall shower trailer is available, and individuals can either bring their body wash or use the provided supply. The showers are cleaned after each use. Laundry service is also available with a turnaround time of 24 hours, limited to essential clothing items only.
However, the cooling station at the hospital will be closing early at 3 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, the farmer’s market remains a hub for disaster supplies. These include tarps, totes, gloves, survival buckets, heavy-duty trash bags, hygiene kits, toilet paper, bleach, and paper towels.
A list of areas requiring tree and brush clean-up has been compiled
Those in need of assistance are encouraged to contact 972-639-6987 to have their names added to the list. Crews, upon approval, can access backyards for clean-up operations. The city is actively seeking state aid to facilitate the removal of brush from curbs. Additionally, a large dumpster has been positioned on Airport Road south of the prison. Individuals are requested to bag food waste separately and use the designated green dump for tree limbs, bushes, and branches. However, the dumpster is not intended for disposing of metal or household goods.
To assist the affected citizens, an Emergency Relief Fund has been established. Contributions can be made at any branch of the First National Bank of Winnsboro, including the Winona branch, with attention to the WVFD Disaster Relief Fund. Alternatively, donations can be made via CashApp to $WVFDDisasterRelief, and checks can be mailed to First National Bank, and made out to the WVFD Disaster Relief Fund.
It is important to note that these funds are not intended for the fire department itself; rather, they serve as a channel for distributing financial support to affected individuals within the community.
