Property Tax/Rent Rebate Program Offers Financial Relief for Pennsylvanians

Pennsylvania residents aged 65 and older, widows and widowers aged 50 and older, and individuals with disabilities aged 18 and older can now benefit from the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program

The program, which begins distributing rebates on July 1, sets income limits at $35,000 per year for homeowners and $15,000 per year for renters. To facilitate the application process, the Department of Revenue offers convenient services. By providing a phone number on the application form or through the myPATH electronic application, applicants will receive automated calls notifying them when their claim is posted to the processing system and when it gets approved.

Additionally, individuals can easily check the status of their rebate by utilizing the Where’s My Rebate? tool. To access this service, applicants will need to provide their Social Security number, claim year, and date of birth. The standard rebate amount is currently set at $650, but certain qualifying homeowners may be eligible for supplemental rebates that can increase the total to $975.

Eligible applicants are encouraged to visit the Property Tax/Rent Rebate program page on the Department of Revenue’s website for comprehensive program information, including detailed instructions and the paper application form. In case of inquiries, contact details are also provided. It is important to note that the application process is free, and assistance is available at various locations across the state, including Department of Revenue district offices, local area agencies on aging, senior centers, and state legislators‘ offices.

Since rebates are based on annual income and property taxes or rent paid, applicants must reapply each year. Spouses, personal representatives, or estates may file rebate claims on behalf of individuals who resided in Pennsylvania for at least one day in 2022 and meet all other eligibility criteria. By offering this program, the state aims to alleviate financial burdens and support its older citizens and those with disabilities.
