New York GOP Lawmakers Oppose Bill That Will Provide Healthcare Coverage to Illegal Immigrants

Following the Senate’s approval, GOP lawmakers opposed the passing of the new bill that will provide healthcare coverage to illegal immigrants in New York and asked Governor Kathy Hochul to veto the bill.

According to reports from New York Post, GOP lawmakers claimed that the administration should focus on strengthening the state’s border instead of providing healthcare coverage to illegal immigrants, which would only encourage other illegal immigrants to stay in New York.

The GOP lawmakers were strongly against using the taxpayers’ money to fund the healthcare coverage to be given to illegal immigrants, which reportedly would be approximately $1 billion a year to cater for the healthcare needs of more than 200,000 migrants.
