A South African former secretary general was arrested after his alleged involvement in misconduct and corruption.
Former Secretary General Accused of Misconduct and Corruption After Personally Benefitting from Government Fund
A 63-year-old former secretary general of the African National Congress (ANC) named Ace Magashule was accused of corruption after allegedly benefitting from a government fund worth over $13 million, which was supposed to fund the removal of asbestos in Free State province.
Aside from corruption allegations, the former secretary general was also accused of misconduct after refusing to step down from his position when he was told to do so for using government funds.
According to reports from AP News, the former secretary general even released a letter suspending the leader of the ANC because of the accusations, which led to him being charged with misconduct after refusing to apologize for his terrible actions.
Former General Secretary Faces Multiple Charges After Misconduct and Corruption Allegations
Following the misconduct and corruption claims, the former general secretary was suspended and later expelled from the ANC to face multiple charges, including breaches of party rules.
Alongside the former general secretary were several other ANC officials and former officials who were accused of corruption and using government funds for personal benefit, confirming the increasing graft cases in Africa.
