Alabama Transportation Director John Cooper, 75, was taken into custody on Monday after being charged with harassment

He was able to secure his release on a $500 bond just 40 minutes later. Chief Deputy Willie Orr of the Marshall County Sheriff’s Department stated that the arrest resulted from a complaint made by a private citizen against another individual. However, he refrained from providing further details regarding the nature of the dispute. Cooper voluntarily presented himself at the jail at approximately midday to surrender.

Cooper has held the position of Alabama Department of Transportation Director since 2011 and is a member of Governor Kay Ivey’s cabinet

Gina Maiola, the spokesperson for Governor Ivey, indicated that the governor’s office was in the process of gathering information concerning the arrest and declined to offer an immediate comment.

It is important to note that the charge against Cooper is a misdemeanor. Harassment offenses can encompass a range of actions that cause distress, annoyance, or intimidation toward another person. As the case unfolds, more details regarding the specific allegations and circumstances surrounding the incident are likely to emerge.
