On June 5, McLendon was arrested near Foley, Alabama, following a report received by dispatchers around 10 a.m. regarding a reckless driver traveling southbound on Highway 98.

Mississippi State Senator Michael McLendon has been apprehended in Alabama and charged with driving under the influence (DUI) on a highway

Deputies conducted a field test on McLendon and subsequently took him into custody for driving under the influence. The sheriff’s office stated that his charge involves a combination of DUI and substance, suggesting that he may have been under the influence of both alcohol and another substance. However, law enforcement has not disclosed the nature of the additional substance or whether it is illegal.

After being arrested, McLendon was released later on a $2,500 bond. He is now scheduled to appear in court on October 25 to address the charges against him.

McLendon has not provided any comment in response to a call and voicemail seeking his input on the matter

Since 2020, he has been representing his district in north Mississippi as a State Senator. The arrest of a public figure like McLendon on DUI charges has sparked public interest and raised concerns about his ability to fulfill his responsibilities effectively. This incident could potentially have ramifications for his political career, as it brings into question his judgment and credibility as an elected official.
