Recipients Of Supplemental Security Income Will Receive June Payment In 23 days

Supplemental Security Income recipients will receive their second June payment, valued up to $914 for individual filers, in 24 days.

Duplicate Payment In June Due To SSA Calendar Snafu

The cheque will be mailed on Friday, June 30, and will be the second of two for the month of June. The first was delivered on June 1. Because July 1 is a Sunday, the second payment is replacing the July payment.

The duplicate payment in June is due to a minor snafu in the Social Security Administration’s calendar.

Beneficiaries receive varying amounts of money, whereas solo filers, joint filers, and essential persons receive varied amounts. Individual recipients receive $914 per month, eligible couples receive $1,371, and essential individuals, or those who live with people receiving SSI benefits and provide them with necessary care, earn $458 per month, according to the SSA.

SSI payments are paid in addition to standard Social Security retirement benefits. Adults and children with blindness or another impairment and little income are eligible for monthly compensation under this program.

SSI Payments Are Made On The Last Working Day Before The Start Of Each Month

To be eligible for SSI, recipients must be over the age of 65, wholly or partially blind, or have a “physical or mental condition(s) that severely limits their daily activities for a period of 12 months or more or may result in death.”

Although payments are usually made on the first of each month, there are some exceptions if the first occurs on a weekend or a holiday. In such circumstances, the SSA sends monthly SSI payments on the last working day before the start of the month.

Beneficiaries still receive 12 checks each year under the revised schedule, even if they receive two checks in certain months and none in others. This year, two payments will be delivered in the same month in four months: March, June, September, and December. In April, July, and October, the first of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, while January 1 is always a holiday.

The SSA began issuing SSI payments in January 1974, and payment rates for cost-of-living adjustments have grown since 1975, according to the agency.
