The payments, issued by the Social Security Administration, are scheduled to be sent out on June 30

The first payment for June was disbursed on June 1. The reason for the double payment in June is to accommodate the fact that July 1 falls on a weekend, and payments cannot be processed on weekends.

The amount of money beneficiaries receive varies based on their filing status. Individual filers will receive up to $914 per month, eligible couples will receive up to $1,371, and essential persons, who live with and provide necessary care to SSI recipients, will receive up to $458 per month. These payments are in addition to regular Social Security benefits.

The SSI program provides monthly financial assistance to adults and children with disabilities or blindness and limited income. To qualify for SSI, individuals must be over 65 years old, totally or partially blind, or have a physical or mental condition that significantly limits their daily activities for at least 12 months or is expected to result in death.

While SSI payments are typically disbursed on the first of each month, exceptions are made for weekends and holidays

In such cases, payments are sent on the last business day before the start of the month. This adjusted schedule ensures that beneficiaries receive a total of 12 checks per year, with some months having two payments and others having none. This year, the months of March, June, September, and December will feature double payments, while April, July, October, and January will have no payments on the first of the month due to weekends or holidays.

The SSA has been issuing SSI payments since January 1974, with payment rates increasing over the years to account for cost-of-living adjustments.
