According to sources who spoke with ABC News, Joran van der Sloot, the main accused in the mysterious 2005 abduction of American adolescent Natalee Holloway, is expected to be transported to the United States on Saturday.

According to sources, he would first be moved from the Callapalca prison to Lima, Peru, at midnight. The killing of university student Stephany Flores, 21, in 2010 resulted in a 28-year prison term for the Dutch national in Peru.

Van der Sloot is charged with blackmail and wire theft in the United States due to allegations that he attempted to make money off of his involvement in the Holloway case.

When visiting Aruba for his high school graduation, 18-year-old Holloway vanished in May 2005. She last appeared to be leaving in a car with several young men, namely van der Sloot, who was 17 at the time.

A federal grand jury in Alabama charged Van der Sloot in 2010 for reportedly attempting to blackmail Holloway’s family after he had been held as an accused in the teen’s abduction and later freed.
