Charged Against A Trooper Who Fired Bean Bags To A Man Who Was Acting Irrationally, Dismissed By Vermont Judge. The Man Was Hit And Fell Then Hit His Head. The Trooper Submitted An Affidavit Saying That The Injury Was Not Caused By Their Firing Of The Beanbag.
Beanbag Shooting caused injury to a man?
Sgt. Ryan Wood and Trooper Zachary Trocki was charged of assault by firing a beanbag out of the shotgun to a man who was acting irrationally, who fell into the ground and hitting his head. Vermont judge dismissed the allegations, and the troopers submitted their affidavits that there was no connection to the firing of the beanbag to injury acquired by the man. They were both subjected to trial in court for misdemeanor and endangerment.
The two troopers were sent to southern Vermont town of Newfane on June 17 to respond in a distress call that a man was acting wildly and irrationally, causing damage. When they arrived, the man was seen holding a saw in an elevated portion at the back of the house. then there was the shooting of the beanbag and the man slipped and fell more than 10 feet to the ground that cause his head injury.

The Vermont Trooper’s association said that the officers were just doing their job in good faith. Thus, the using of the beanbag was to bring a peaceful negotiation with no harm done. Defense Attorney David Sleigh said that there is no factual basis as to the injury incurred by the suspect. The troopers were put into an administrative paid leave but then proceeded to suspension.
