A North Carolina man who was charged a decade ago with child abuse is now facing a case of murder for the death of his second child
One decade ago, Sterling Cummings, a North Carolina man, was arrested and charged with a child abuse felony for shaking his 3-week-old first son. After a year, he was sentenced by the court to spend 45 days in jail for the felony causing his first son to be placed in foster care and leaving the boy with disabilities.
One decade later, the North Carolina man was arrested again and charged with first-degree murder and child abuse after allegedly killing his second child.
According to the police investigation, the North Carolina man watched his second child when the baby’s mother stepped out. When the mother came home, she found the baby wasn’t breathing and immediately called 911. The baby was rushed to the hospital, where he died. The medical documents showed the baby had an abnormal MRI and retinal hemorrhaging.

The North Carolina man will be presented in court on July 6, 2023
During the investigation, the police were aware of the previous case of the North Carolina man. During interrogation, the North Carolina man was inconsistent in his statements leading the police to suspect that the baby died under suspicious circumstances.
The foster parent of North Carolina’s first son wasn’t surprised by the news that the North Carolina man was back in handcuffs. She knows he will do it again.
