A mom was convicted after leaving daughter alone in a pool while staying at a hotel at Melville. DA said that she was constantly checking her daughter while drinking at a bar but on the last minute of checking her daughter was already floating in the pool.
Daughter drowned while mom had her drinks at the Hotel Bar
Erica Baez, was charged on Tuesday for Manslaughter and child endangerment, in connection with her daughter’s death on May 1 nearly a year and a half after the drowning incident that transpired in Long Island Hotel in Melville. DA said that Baez asked an employee to use the indoor pool of the hotel, wherein her daughter played alone. She was already warned by the staff that she should always be with her child because the lifeguard was not on duty.
It was said that she comes back and forth in checking her daughter, she then went to check on her 5-month-old son who was left alone inside the hotel room, and she went down to check again in the pool. Katlyn Pineda, who was 7 years old at the time, her daughter, was floating lifeless on the water. After seeing her daughter in that situation, she then jumped into the water and picked up lifeless Katlyn. When the crews arrived, they performed CPR and brought back to life the little girl but was too late, Katlyn suffered brain damage for lack of oxygen and died two weeks ago, May 1.
