A brave teenager in Michigan successfully thwarted a kidnapping incident using a slingshot, according to Michigan State Police.
Michigan teen uses slingshot to foil kidnapping attempt
The incident occurred on Wednesday when an 8-year-old girl was playing in the backyard of her Alpena Township home and was suddenly grabbed by a man emerging from the nearby woods. The assailant placed his hand over the girl’s mouth and attempted to pull her into the woods.
Fortunately, the girl’s 13-year-old brother, who was inside their home at the time, heard his sister’s screams and quickly responded. He grabbed a slingshot from his bedroom and aimed it at the kidnapper. With remarkable accuracy, he struck the man on the head, causing him to release his grip momentarily. Undeterred, the brother then hurled another rock from his slingshot, hitting the kidnapper in the chest.
The force of the slingshot strikes disoriented the assailant, allowing the young girl to break free and rush back into her home. Seizing the opportunity, the kidnapper fled into the woods using a familiar trail frequented by the community. Prior to alerting the authorities, the girl’s family contacted relatives to inform them of the incident, enlisting their help in identifying the suspect.

Michigan State Troopers promptly located the individual, who was later identified as a 17-year-old male. During questioning, the minor admitted to struggling with anger issues and stated that he had been searching for a victim to assault. Unfortunately for him, the young girl happened to be in his vicinity.
The minor was arrested and now faces charges of kidnapping and attempted murder. Currently held at the Alpena County Jail on a bond of $150,000, he will be dealt with according to the law. This incident serves as a reminder of the bravery displayed by the quick-thinking teenager who utilized a slingshot to protect his sister from harm, highlighting the importance of vigilance and community involvement in safeguarding against such crimes.
