New textbooks would be distributed to students, and they will immediately note that BLM and material relating to George Floyd’s case have been removed. This is a standard procedure that the state performs every several years; still, Florida’s recent “Stop Woke Act” raises more questions.

Civil rights activists are disgusted by the removal of lessons about the movement and the nationwide protests. Muck City Black Lives Matter founder Robert Mitchell describes the action as an “attempt to cover up the facts.”

It makes natural that you will be informed that there was a campaign named Black Lives Matter in your books, Mitchell added. The killing and unjustified killing of young men and women was the cause, according to the statement.

Leaders in education, like Jessica Vaughn of the Hillsborough School Board, consider the change to be unsettling. The Tampa Bay Times quoted Vaughn as saying, “There are numerous feelings, but I think right away it’s anxiety. Since I believe this is straight out of the racists’ playbook, I’m scared of the trend of erasing or attempting to rewrite history.”
