A police officer, 24, was killed, and 4 teenagers have been charged with murder

Officials said Wednesday that 4 minors, such as a 16-year-old, had been accused in the brutal murder of a cherished 24-year-old Chicago police officer.

As she received a gunshot and died at around 1:42 a.m. on Saturday, Officer Aréanah Preston had just concluded her duty and was still wearing her uniform, as reported by Chicago police.

According to interim Chicago Police Superintendent Eric Carter, the 4 individuals suspected, who are aged 19, 19, 18, and 16, “had been out seeking targets” that night and are suspected of being involved in several thefts and an automobile robbery in the hours before Preston’s murder.

Police said that when teenagers arrived in a stolen automobile as Preston was driving home, at least 2 of them opened fire on her.

Preston fired back, but the teenagers kept firing and, according to Carter, they snatched Preston’s pistol before running away.

Police reported that they had not yet located Preston’s weapon.

Trevell Breeland, 19, Joseph Brooks, 19, and Jakwon Buchanan, 18, were named by the cops as 3 of the 4 accused on Wednesday. The 16-year-old’s name was not known.
