Federal prosecutors have filed a broad-ranging accusation against Rep. George Santos, the Republican whose victory in New York was quickly accompanied by disclosures that he had produced his biography during the initiative. The charge accuses him of wire scams, money transferring, taking public money, and depending on federal disclosure forms.
At a trial in federal court on Long Island on Wednesday afternoon, Santos, 34, declared not guilty to every accusation. His movement will be limited to New York, Washington, and areas nearby after he was freed from detention on a $500,000 bond that was guaranteed by 3 people whose names are kept private.
At a dramatic scene beyond the courts, Santos said reporters that he believed the accusations were the result of a “witch hunt,” using the same word that former President Donald Trump includes in describing his investigations. “I need to continue battling for my innocence,” Santos added, “and I’m willing to do that.”
Santos, according to federal prosecutors, participated in 3 different activities.
