Louisiana Lawmakers Oppose Bill to Exclude Rape and Incest Cases to Abortion Bans

The Louisiana lawmakers opposed the bill that aims to exclude rape and incest cases from abortion bans without giving enough reasoning for their decision.

The proposed bill that was rejected by the Louisiana lawmakers supposedly will allow the exception of rape and incest cases to protect the victims of the said cases and give them the power to decide whether to carry a rapist’s child or not.

Despite the opposition of Louisiana lawmakers, several democrats have expressed their support to the bill, especially with the possible effects of forcing the rape and incest victims to give birth and forever be reminded of their rapists and the tragic incidents.

Louisiana Lawmakers Receive Criticism Over Rejection of Bill

Several officials and other committees criticized the Louisiana lawmakers after they rejected the bill and allowed the rape and incest victims to carry the trauma for a long time without considering its impact on the victims’ mental and physical health.

According to AP News, several rape and incest victims even claimed that they would rather choose to end their own lives than give birth to their rapists’ babies, which clearly shows how the decision of the Louisiana lawmakers would affect them.
