Connecticut residents who are struggling to pay their winter energy bills have just three weeks left to apply for a one-time direct payment under the Connecticut Energy Assistance Program (CEAP).
The program is available to low-income households and offers payments ranging from $250 to $600 to help cover energy costs over the winter
Applications for the program’s most recent round will close on May 31 and can be made online.
To be eligible, applicants must meet three criteria: they must be Connecticut residents, have a Social Security number, and meet income guidelines – below 60 percent of the state’s median income, or receiving one of several benefits. The exact payment amount will depend on the household’s income level, size, and whether there is a vulnerable member in the household.
The program is particularly important to some Connecticut residents after another local energy assistance program closed early.
Most successful applicants will have their payment sent directly to their utility company, and the rebate will be reflected on their next bill. However, residents whose bills are included in their rent will receive their payment directly.

Pennsylvania residents can apply for the property tax/rent rebate program through June 30, with payments ranging from $250 to $975 depending on their income and whether they are homeowners or renters. Alabama residents may also be eligible for an income tax rebate of $100 for most filers.
In addition, a class action lawsuit is awarding payments of up to $700 to customers affected by an alleged data breach suffered by the Medical Review Institute of America, while customers of Don Roberto’s Jewelers may be owed up to $5,750 thanks to a $4 million privacy settlement.
