Five Maricopa County Inmates Rushed to Hospital After Drug Overdose

Five Maricopa County inmates were rushed to the hospital to be treated after overdosing on Narcan drugs inside their jail cell Saturday.

According to the County officials, the drug overdose of the five Maricopa County inmates happened inside Phoenix, where there are reportedly 720 facility houses that cater for the inmates who are mostly consist of pre-trial detainees or inmates who have not yet received their sentences for their crimes.

The incident concerned the County Sheriff’s officials as it was strong evidence of widespread drug smuggling happening between Maricopa County inmates inside the jails, AP News reported.

Increasing Cases of Drug Overdose Between Maricopa County Inmates

After the five Maricopa County inmates were released from the hospital, officials planned to install additional security scanners to ensure that no individuals, including volunteers, visitors, and employees getting in and out of jails, were giving or selling drugs to the inmates.

Before the recent drug overdose incident, the County Sheriff’s officials already received reports of drug overdoses and drug smuggling between the Maricopa County inmates inside the jail, and some were also sent to hospitals.
