Chicago Police Officer Shot and Killed in the Line of Duty on the City’s South Side

The police received a call about shots being fired around 1:42 a.m. local time, and an officer responded to the scene.

A female Chicago police officer was shot and killed early Saturday morning in the city’s South Side Avalon Park neighborhood

The responding officer found the female officer with a gunshot wound and rushed her to the University of Chicago hospital. Unfortunately, the officer died from her injuries. As of Saturday morning, no one has been taken into custody, and police are continuing to investigate the incident.

The officer had served on the force for three years, according to interim Chicago police superintendent Eric Carter.

The incident has sparked outrage and sadness in the community

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot expressed her condolences to the family of the deceased officer and directed the superintendent to spare no expense in finding the perpetrators and bringing them to justice. Mayor-elect Brandon Johnson also called the shooting a “profound tragedy” and expressed his support for the family of the young officer who was murdered.

Many are calling for justice for the fallen officer. The Chicago Police Department has yet to release any additional information about the shooting or the investigation.
