Accepting applications for $120 million broadband infrastructure projects in rural areas in Texas has begun.

House Bill Number 5 of the 87th Legislative

House Bill Number 5 of the 87th Legislative created the Texas Broadband Development Office. This office funds low-interest loans and other incentives to internet providers who will expand access to internet service in other areas.

Texas Broadband Development Office Board of Advisors (TBDOBOA) members directed applicants to study its first round of funds totaling $120 million for Texas Broadband Infrastructure Projects this May 5.

Comptroller Glenn Hegar of Texas publicized his agency is starting to accept applications for Texas broadband infrastructure projects on May 5. The application will be part of BOOT or Bringing Online Opportunities to Texas.

Requirement and Deadline of Application

To avail of funding for a proposed project in Texas, eligible applicants must have the following:

1. Political subdivision of this state.
2. Commercial broadband service provider.
3. Non-commercial broadband service provider.
4. A partnership of any of the above.

Interested applicants must submit their applications on Friday, May 5. Applicants must use BDO Application System.
