Gwendoline Amsrala was stabbed to death by her husband in Las Vegas, Nevada after she returned home from a night out with a friend

Amsrala’s husband, Shiva Gummi, 33, called 911 on April 15, claiming he had stabbed himself. When the dispatcher asked about Amsrala‘s whereabouts, Gummi replied that she was dead and next to him. Police arrived at the couple’s home, where they found Amsrala’s body in a bedroom with a large bloody kitchen knife on the floor next to the couple.

According to police reports, Gummi was upset that Amsrala had spent the night at a friend’s house, who was intoxicated after a night of drinking. Gummi was also out the night before and returned home at 11 pm, while Amsrala returned at 9 pm. Gummi has no prior history of domestic violence. He was taken to a local hospital and listed in critical condition.

He was later arrested and charged with open murder with a deadly weapon

As police continue investigating the case, Amsrala’s family and friends are mourning her loss. Dr. Mark Chang, her chief at the Kirk Kerkorian School of Medicine at UNLV, set up a GoFundMe page to care for Amsrala’s immediate family as she is survived by her mother and father. In a statement, Chang praised Amsrala’s sense of humor, strength of spirit, leadership, and charming smile. The fundraiser is an opportunity to fulfill Amsrala’s wishes to provide for her parents.

The tragedy serves as a reminder of the dangers of domestic violence, which can happen even in seemingly stable relationships. The incident shocked the Las Vegas community, and the victim’s colleagues and classmates have expressed their condolences and shared stories of Amsrala’s kindness and dedication to her patients.
