Din Djarin and Bo-Katan Kryze run into difficulty in the Mandalorian clandestine as Grogu thinks back on a horrific experience in The Mandalorian Season 3 Episode 4, Chapter 20: The Foundling. It’s a journey that helps Bo-Katan grow as a character and reveals more about Grogu’s past.
Chapter 20: The Foundling doesn’t waste any time in launching our trio into the hidden world of adventure. It’s not surprising that Din wants to teach Grogu the ways of the Mandalore, especially in light of the latter’s study with Luke Skywalker, but it shows how much he cares for our favorite little green man.
The Mandalorian and Star Wars in general spend a lot of time discussing religion and the right to practise it openly. We’ve seen how Bo-Katan and Din view their identities in relation to their religious views, as well as the contrasts in their respective religions. Din’s identity is woven from the fabric of the Mandalorian Creed.

Bo-Katan, however, views herself through a unique perspective that is wholly distinct from her upbringing. While Season 3 has thus far focused on Din’s desire to fit in as an outsider, which led to his adoption of the Creed, Chapter 20: The Foundling sides with Din. Their distance from one another narrows.

Bo-Katan is constantly given a jaded and wary air by Katee Sackhoff. Chapter 20: Bo-Katan seems to be revitalized by The Foundling as she develops a sense of belonging among her fellow Mandalorians. She adopts the Creed like Din and even organizes rescue operations to save a Foundling.
For a figure who strongly opposed The Way, it’s an intriguing 180. Given what she witnessed on Mandalore, her final conversation with the Armorer in which she requests the Mythosaur be on her pauldron is also intriguing. Even though Bo-Katan kept the Mythosaur sighting from Din, she spoke openly about it with the Armorer.
The Mandalorians revere the mythical Mythosaurs, but that is not all that they are. According to mythology, witnessing one will bring about a new era on Mandalore even though they are said to have disappeared before The Mandalorian.
Bo-trust Katan’s in The Way may have been renewed by seeing the Mythosaur in the Living Waters. That would account for her recent conversion to the Creed. Why she would hide what she witnessed from Din is still a little mysterious, but perhaps we’ll learn more about that later.
KELLERAN BEQ [to Grogu]: Everything s gonna be alright, kid.
Without a doubt, the episode’s high point is the flashback to the siege of the Jedi Temple on Coruscant. We learn more about Kelleran Beq, who assists Grogu in escaping during the siege. This action-packed scene seems to have been taken straight from the prequel trilogy. Also, it’s thrilling to see Kelleran use two lightsabers to attack the Clone Troopers in the style of Ahsoka Tano.
Grogu is beautifully rendered as a character with colourful expression by the creative team. This season, his face appears even more realistic. This is the first time we get to focus specifically on Grogu sans Din, with the exception of his training sessions with Luke in The Book of Boba Fett.
Chapter 20: With his distressed expressions, the Foundling performs the Order 66 scene. It’s a brilliant method to tell a tale without using words. Although though Grogu is unable to openly express his anguish to people around him, we are aware of how devastated he is by what he went through during the siege.
With Carl Weathers at the helm once more, the action-packed half-hour of pure, undiluted escape is seamlessly directed.
This expedition is no exception to The Mandalorian’s history of entertainment failure. Additionally, it expands on the lore, closes important character development gaps, astounds with its painstaking attention to immersive creature detail, and raises intriguing questions for the audience to consider.

- I d like to believe Din referring to Grogu as his ward is merely a special way of saying son. One of these days, he ll blatantly admit that he s Grogu s dad. Sigh. Even Bo-Katan openly acknowledges them as father and son!
- Those baby raptors are too darn cute, but I can t envision the Armorer creating helmets for them. Can you imagine how much beskar she d need for such a task?
- The ship Grogu and Kelleran Beq flee in as they depart Coruscant is the same H-type Nubian yacht featured in Star Wars: Episode II Attack of the Clones. Initially, it was for the royal family of Naboo.
