We compile a list of the top films of 2023 from festivals, theatrical releases, and streaming platforms. Keep this list close at hand in 2023.

At Ready Steady Cut this year, we want to attempt something new. Instead of waiting until the end of the year to name the finest movies, we thought it would be cool to have a running list of the best movies of 2023 all year long. By doing so, we can continue to advance movies throughout the whole year, not just during the busy award season.

The list we are compiling has a few exclusions. This list does not include any movies that had a limited release or were eligible for the 2022 awards season but debuted in broad release in 2023. Also, any picture that has been shown at a film festival without obtaining distribution, such as Sundance or SXSW, will be disqualified until a release date is determined.

Please see the list of the top movies released in 2023 thus far by scrolling down! At the conclusion of each month, be sure to check back for updates on what has been added, removed, and errors fixed in developing the year’s top movies! Check out our article about the top movies available on Netflix in 2023 if you want to learn more about the best film lists.
