With Jamie Demetriou, we discuss the Netflix comedy special A Whole Lifetime.
Jamie Demetriou is primarily recognised for his work on the popular Prime Video sitcom Fleabag. Demetriou, a local of London, has been cracking jokes since he was a student with the Bristol Revunions. Demetriou won the BAFTAs for Stath Lets Flats in 2020 for Best Scripted Comedy, Best Writer of a Comedy, and Best Male Actor in a Comedy. His first Netflix original, A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou, is the result of this.
A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou Review
A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou is a musical-sketch comedy programme that tells the tale of Jamie Demetriou’s uncomfortable upbringing and less-than-ideal years.
I had no idea what to expect when I switched on this comedy special, but the opening scene caused me a headache. We watch Jamie walking through the same door repeatedly throughout the whole comedy spectacular. I arrived at roughly the ten-minute point and didn’t laugh once, instead becoming frustrated that I still had fifty minutes to go.
I once more refrained from laughing when we entered “Act 2,” when we observed a bunch of men discussing something in a pub. I didn’t start laughing until we got to the “Reality TV” dating skit. Even though it was possibly the only skit that made me chuckle, I strongly suggest looking for only this scene to watch. Many guys were looking for kisses during the “Kiss Villa” concert. Everyone who like reality television would laugh out at this adorable little skit.
I have to give credit to the group that helped Jamie and this show get off the ground. Each crew did a fantastic job, from the makeup artists who rendered Jamie virtually unrecognisable in a number of sketches to the costume designers who had to make adjustments after each skit.
Although I have no doubt that Jamie has an audience who will devour this in its entirety, I found it to be stale, dry, and not amusing. I had seen Jamie’s work on Fleabag and even The Afterparty on Apple TV+, but I had never seen it on Stath Lets Flats, which is more in line with the tone of this programme. Maybe that’s why I didn’t find the comedy funny.

Is a Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou Good?
No. A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou eventually failed to amuse viewers due to its weak attempt at humour, shoddy writing, and ultimately unfunny skits.
I may have chuckled once or twice more after the reality TV sketch, but man, this was a hard hour to get through. I’ll give credit where credit is due, but I’m unable to endorse this to anyone.
