There has been a new trend of people updating their profile images to look like Ghostface from the Scream movies.
Many TikTok users have been sucked by the Scream cult in the lead-up to Halloween. People aren’t only switching around their display pictures, but they’re also posting and sharing eerie stills and video clips from the movies as well.
Researching The Ghostface Cults
The fact that the next film in the Scream franchise is scheduled for release in 2022 is likely also contributing to the popularity of Scream PFPs among TikTok users. There’s no better time than now to start a cult in honor of one of the all-time greatest horror hits.
However, the term “cult” should not be interpreted literally by TikTok users. The term is being used carelessly on the hub, yet it has absolutely no harmful connotations.
Cults on TikTok are just groups of users who have common interests, such as a love of a particular TV show or set of beliefs. In reality, fan bases for certain celebrities have emerged among TikTok fans.
The platform gave rise to Step Chicken’s Cult, which no one can forget. It was common for people to post blue avatars. Then, of course, there was Lana Del Rey‘s devoted fan base, who became known as the Lana Cult. The group’s PFP was a similar selfie taken with the singer.
The singer can be seen in the photo laughing and posing for the camera as the car behind her bursts into flames.

As far as we can tell, @ghostface4670 was the first TikTok user to post the Scream PFP video. The first Ghostface cult video was uploaded on October 22 of this year, and the phenomenon has since taken over the site.
