Warnings about “possibly sensitive content” prevent you from retweeting some tweets. Thankfully, you can silence this alert even on iOS devices like the iPhone and iPad. In addition to making your account private, you can disable sensitive content alerts for your tweets.
What Exactly Is “Sensitive Material?”
Twitter claims this category is for “potentially sensitive content… such as violence or nudity.” To put it bluntly, Twitter is a more relaxed social network than Facebook. As long as the content is not unlawful or “excessively graphic,” as Twitter puts it, then it can be shared.
This content is restricted on Twitter with a notice that reads something like “This media may contain sensitive material,” “This profile may feature potentially sensitive information,” or “The following media includes potentially sensitive stuff.” If you don’t have a Twitter account, you’ll need to create one and sign in to modify this setting.

Methods for Ignoring the “Sensitive Content”
Twitter’s Sensitive Content alert is turned off in the account’s settings. These controls can be found in the same location in the Android app, however, they are absent from the Twitter client for iOS devices. However, if you alter the option on the web, the Twitter apps for iPhone and iPad will display the information without any warnings.
- Visit Twitter and select the “More” option (it looks like three dots in a circle) on the left side of the page to turn off the alert.
- Select “Settings and Privacy” from the drop-down menu that appears next.
- From the menu on the left, pick “Privacy and Safety,” then “Content You See.”
- To turn off the warning for tweets, select the option to “Display Media That May Contain Sensitive Content” towards the screen’s top.

- Tweets containing private information are generally shielded from search results, but you can reveal them if you’d like.
- The Twitter client for Android also has this option, as described above, however, the iOS versions of Twitter don’t.

A Step-by-Step Guide to Disabling the Safety Warning on Your Own Twitter Account
- If you do not want any of the content you publish to Twitter to be flagged as private, you may do so by going to More > Settings and Privacy > Privacy and Safety > Your Tweets. Ensure the box labeled “Mark media you tweet as containing material that may be sensitive” is unchecked.
- Twitter’s iOS app doesn’t have this feature, but the website and the Android app do.
- Don’t worry if you don’t want to see sensitive stuff on Twitter; that’s not how it works by default. Simply turn off “Display Media That May Contain Sensitive Content” and turn on “Hide Sensitive Content” for searches.
