Even in the year 2021, the Asus Zenfone 8 series will stand out from the crowd of today’s humongous smartphones. Smaller displays, premium design, high-end performance and a budget price point have garnered the series a devoted fanbase. Now, we’re getting closer and closer to our next phone, the Asus Zenfone 9.
More information about the phone has emerged in the previous two weeks. Here’s what we know so far about the Zenfone 9.
Design
When compared to the Zenfone 8, which had a more understated appearance, the Zenfone 9 stands out with its square-slab shape and contrasting camera lenses. To further lower the phone’s weight, Asus ditched the glass sandwich in favour of a polymer back that comes in four distinct colours. As a result, Asus claims a 36% savings.
The Asus Zenfone 9 is a 169g smartphone featuring a 5.9-inch AMOLED display, a much larger camera system, and a 4300mAh battery. With the new design, Asus chose to get rid of the Zenfone 9’s under-screen fingerprint scanner. Gestural user interface controls are made possible by the biometric component built into the power button.
This year, the display still has Gorilla Glass Victus protection; the IP68 rating is still in place; and, the 3.5mm headphone connection is still located on the top edge. The power button and USB-C port are located on the bottom of the device, with the volume controls located above.
Although its size was its main distinguishing feature, it appears that this year’s Zenfone 8 has a new appearance that should help it stand out in the market.

Features
There is a lot of useful information about the product’s features to be found in the promotional film. OLED display at 120Hz, 4,300mAh battery, Snapdragon 8 Plus Gen 1 CPU, and side fingerprint scanner are just some of the features of this phone.
Camera specifications include an IMX766 primary camera with “gimbal stabilisation” of 50MP. However, there’s no information on the secondary back camera, although we’re betting it’s a 12MP ultrawide camera
An earlier rumour suggested that the Zenfone 9 might feature a back tap gesture similar to the Google Pixel 6. At this point, we don’t know what this double-tap motion performs or if it can be mapped.
In the meantime, we’ll have to settle for speculating about other features like the front-facing camera and the charging speed until the device is officially released.
Battery
Asus has also increased the capacity of the Zenfone 9’s battery, which is a welcome addition. When using the Zenfone 9, the enclosed cell goes from 4000mAh to 4300mAh. In addition, 30W charging is still supported by the OEM.
It also has software-based features like a charge limiter, scheduled charging, and steady charging, all of which assist protect the battery inside the phone and keep it running at peak performance. The Zenfone 9 comes with a 30W charger provided by Asus.
