Before becoming pregnant with son Ender again, Halsey claims that having an abortion “saved” their life. In response to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling to overturn Roe v. Wade, the “Without Me” singer, who utilizes “she/they” pronouns, published an open statement in Vogue on July 1.
Many people have questioned Halsey, 27, about whether she has changed her opinion on abortion having to carry a kid to term despite years of difficulty doing so.
The response is a categorical no. I’ve never felt more strongly about anything, in fact.
The singer of “Closer” stated
“My abortion saved my life and made room for the birth of my kid. Each individual should have the freedom to decide if they will undergo this risky and life-changing experience and when, how, and in what way. I’m going to fight with both arms while holding my son in one.
In addition, Halsey revealed that before the age of 24, they had “miscarried three times.” They welcomed their first child with Alev Aydin in July 2021.
“It seemed a cruel irony that I could get pregnant easily but struggled to maintain a pregnancy,” they said in their letter. “One of my miscarriages required ‘aftercare,’ a delicate way of expressing that I would need an abortion because my body could not totally terminate the pregnancy on its own and I would risk going into sepsis without medical assistance.”
According to the singer
They “cried” throughout the treatment because they were “desperate to abort the pregnancy that was endangering my life.” In 2021, Ender, a baby boy, was born to Halsey and Alev Aydin as their first child.
Halsey remembered, “I was terrified for myself and I was helpless,” adding that they were so affected by the event that they revised their will.
I anticipated the worst, so I was ready. I provided specific instructions regarding the donation of my organs in the event that I pass away or being diagnosed as brain dead, i.e., if my heart continued to beat but my brain stopped working, the state would be allowed to remove my warm, still-flushing organs in order to save the lives of others.
The number-one artist recently advised supporters of the contentious Supreme Court decision to leave their Arizona performance. How ironic that, while my own heart would be nothing more than a sequence of uncontrollable movements on a surgical table, a beating heart inside my womb may mean I couldn’t consent to save my own life.
The piece was published just a few days after Halsey urged concertgoers in Arizona that they should leave the event if they agreed with the Supreme Court‘s decision on abortion rights.
In a clip from last week’s show, they advised the audience
“If you’re angry in this audience right now, and you’re sharing statistics on Instagram and infographics and saying… “That’s really f-ked up,” what you should do instead is you should be sharing stories about how you’ve benefited from abortion in some way.”
