English journalist, newsreader, and television host Sally Nugent was born on August 5, 1971. Along with Dan Walker, Naga Munchetty, Charlie Stayt, and Jon Kay, she has fronted BBC Breakfast since October 2021.
Career
Before moving on to report on and read the sports news on BBC North West Tonight, she began her media career at BBC Radio Merseyside. She started out as a sports reporter for BBC News in 2003, appearing on national bulletins, before transitioning to deliver sports news on the BBC News Channel (known at the time as BBC News 24). For the 2006 FIFA World Cup, she went to Germany and hosted Sportsday from there. After that, Nugent worked as a news reporter for television and radio as well as a fill-in presenter for the BBC News Channel.
In order to stand in for absent regular hosts, Nugent started co-presenting BBC Breakfast on a freelance basis in November 2011. After the programme moved to a new site at Media City in Salford in April 2012, she began hosting sports bulletins on Breakfast alongside Mike Bushell. She firmly established herself as one of the Breakfast team’s regular co-presenters after appearing on the Christmas Eve 2012 episode alongside Bill Turnbull and continued to do so until September 2021 when covering Emma Raducanu’s historic triumph in the US Open tennis tournament.
Following Louise Minchin’s resignation from the show after 20 years, it was announced on October 27, 2021, that Nugent will join Dan Walker, Charlie Stayt, and Naga Munchetty as a permanent presenter of BBC Breakfast.

The single mother has never revealed her salary or financial worth in public. However, in 2020, the Breakfast host responded to a Twitter user who implied she must be richer than the chancellor because the shoes she wore on the programme were made by expensive label Christian Louboutin:
I bet the Chancellor makes more money than I do, and my shoes are from Marks & Spencer,” she spat. Current British Chancellor of the Exchequer Rishi Sunak receives a base salary of £79,000 plus an additional £71,000 for his Chancellor duties.
